The agitating resident doctors of B J Medical College,Ahmedabad,on Monday opened their own Out Patient Department ward at the Civil Hospital premises. The parallel OPD was manned by resident doctors from different departments and was set up opposite the OPD ward at the Civil Hospital.
We examined about 300 patients between 8.30 am and 12.30 pm,and used our own medicines and instruments, said a resident doctor manning one of the parallel wards.
Many patients who were standing in queue, waiting for examination at the hospital’s OPD also came here, said another doctor.
Both doctors requested not to reveal their names.
Six to eight resident doctors from each department took turns to examine the patients even as the official OPD functioned at the campus.
The resident doctors did not take permission from the hospital authorities to set up the OPD. We are fully qualified to open an OPD, said one doctor.
The protesting doctors plan to continue the ward as long as the strike continues. However, they might have to move out of the premises if their registration as resident doctors is terminated.
