A four-year-old girl feared to have been kidnapped a few days ago was found at a women protection home on Friday even as police teams on trail of suspects were busy raiding places in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

According to police,four-year-old Kashish, daughter of one Kishor Gohil,a resident of Rander, had left her house along with her father’s friend Hemant Chauhan on Monday afternoon. Hemant was accompanied by his friend, identified as Mahesh. The two friends consumed liquor in a nearby area after which Hemant reportedly passed out. Mahesh left the area along with the girl.

When Kashish failed to return home, her father set out looking for her and found Hemant lying on the road. Though in drunken stupor,Hemant managed to tell Kishore that the girl was with Mahesh.

Kishor immediately filed a missing complaint with Rander police. During investigation, the police found that Mahesh had made a call to Jalgaun in Maharashtra using Hemant’s mobile phone and a team was immediately dispatched to nab Mahesh. Teams were also sent to MP,where Mahesh has relatives.

In the meantime,a youth named Sajid, who sells snacks on LH road near Surat Railway Station, spotted a girl who was crying. He gave her something to eat and asked her about her parents. When she failed to give proper replies,he handed her over to Varachha police station. After failing to find out her address, the Varachha police kept the girl with them for a day and sent her to the women protection home at Ghod Dod road in Surat on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the police team that had gone to Jalgaun found out that the Mahesh’s real name was Deepak Shengade (28),a father of two sons.

During questioning,Deepak told the police he had left the girl near a snacks shop opposite to Surat Railway Station.

The team returned to Surat along with Deepak and was told by Sajid that he had handed a minor girl to Varachha police.

On Friday,a police team accompanied by Kishor Gohil went to the Women Protection Home at Ghod Dod road, where Kashish was reunited with her family.

Inspector Moin Shaikh of the Crime Branch said,“The suspect had introduced himself to Hemant as Mahesh. He had made a call to his native place. During the interrogation,Deepak disclosed that he had kidnapped the girl since he did not have a girl child. He said he had left girl near Surat Railway Station fearing he would be caught by police.”
