Around 32 kg of Afghani charas was recovered along the coast in Varvala village, on Friday. (Express File Photo) Drugs worth Rs 16 crore were found lying abandoned along the coastal area of Varvala village in Devbhumi Dwarka district on Friday, said police. Around 32 kg of charas was recovered, officials further said, adding that patrolling has been intensified in the 50-km coastal area covering more than 10 villages.
A team of Sagar Suraksha Dal — a group of volunteer fishermen — was on duty when three plastic bags containing 30 packets of drugs were found, Dwarka police said. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials reached the spot and confirmed that the packets contained charas. Police have launched a search operation in the coastal area to find more such packets.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Hardik Prajapati said, “After the recovery, our teams had become active and we, along with Sagar Suraksha Dal teams, have been patrolling in the coastal villages. Because of our patrolling activity, we have seized 30 packets of high-quality charas, which is called Afghani charas. We have registered an offence under different sections of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act against unknown persons and have started a probe.”
He further added, “We have intensified the patrolling in the coastal areas up to 50 kilometres covering around 10 to 12 villages. Our teams will also carry out checks in the coastal village areas and gather information of suspects involved in such illegal activities. We are also using drone cameras during our surveillance.”
Earlier in April, Dwarka police had recovered one kg of charas worth Rs. 52 lakh from Varvala.
