Anand Agriculture University (AAU) is likely to get nearly half of the total land it had given to the state government for the Nano car plant at Charodi village in Sanand taluka of Ahmedabad.
AAU is likely to get 487.5 acres of land within a month. However,it is yet to receive an official communiqué from the Revenue Department in this regard,” said Prof M C Varshenya from the university.
The university had given its 1,100 acres of Northcot Cattle Farmland for the Tata’s ambitious car project. After this,AAU wrote to the state Revenue Department, demanding land in Kheda,Anand and Vadodara districts to carry forward their research projects.
Sources in the university said till the time an alternate site is finalised, the university authorities have decided to shift the entire batch of 50 students pursuing diploma courses at the Sanand agri-school to Anand.
While Anish Mankad, joint secretary,Revenue Department, refused to speak on the issue, sources in the department said the government has finalised seven sites from where land would be allotted to the university.
Around 31 hectares of land is expected to be allotted at Khambholaj in Anand district,40 hectares at Nainpur in Mehmedabad taluka of Kheda district,20 hectares at Ram-na-Muvada,43 hectares at Minawad,20 hectares at Sansoli,20 hectares at Vaso, and 21 hectares at Jabugam in Kheda district.
“It was a few months ago that the AAU authorities inspected the area and demanded a land to carry forward their research activities. Most likely, the Revenue Department is expected to send an official letter to allot the land at these seven sites,” said a source.
When asked if 487.5 acres of land will be sufficient in lieu of 1,100 acres,Prof Varshenya said,”If the university requires additional agricultural land,it will demand more. AAU has not yet thought about this.
