Illegal tree felling has been reported in the Girnar forest area. On Wednesday,forest officials recovered eight tonnes of timber from a house on the outskirts of Junagadh and slapped fine on two persons in this regard.
Forest officials raided a house located in the Bhavnath area at the foot of the Girnar mountain and recovered eight tonnes of timber,allegedly obtained by felling trees in the Girnar sanctuary area adjacent to the house.
Two persons identified as Bhura Rathod and Magan Raichura have been arrested by the Forest department in the case. Both were slapped penalty of Rs 5,000 and Rs 1,000,respectively.
Eight tonnes of timber were recovered from Rathod’s possession,while Raichura had 200 kg of felled wood with him.
In a separate incident,forest officials detained four persons including three minors for illegally entering the prohibited Girnar sanctuary area. They have been identified as Dipak Gauswami (14),Rahul Zala (15),Aashis Baraiya (16) and Ishwar Zala (19).
The youth were found roaming in Narayan Dhara area in the sanctuary. The four were made to pay a fine each and released later.
