The Ahmedabad police arrested six boys,including four first-year students of Arts colleges,in the early hours of Monday as they allegedly harassed and attempted to abduct a man in the city. The boys,however,said they were only playing a prank on the passer-by.
The Vastrapur police said that the six boys Gulabsingh Bajwa,a student of St. Xaviers College of Arts,Yogesh Tanvar,Navneet Sharma and Vineet Sharma,all three students of L D Arts College and Amardeep Chumber and Maninder Sandhu from Deep Industries tried to abduct Yogesh Nimbark,an employee of a cellular company.
Nimbark,however,managed to escape.
Investigating Officer,Inspector R K Ladva said: The students were in a Gypsy and Maninder was driving it. When they were passing through the area between Sanjeeevni Hospital and Himalaya Mall,they saw Nimbark and stopped him. The boys reportedly asked
Nimbark whether he had undergone a kidney operation.When Nimbark,a bit scared,replied in the negative,the boys threatened him by telling him that they will take him away for a kidney operation.
Ladva said Maninder also tried to push Nimbark inside the car. When Nimbark tried to run away,the boys followed him in the Gypsy. Nimbark then called the Police Control Room to complain about the incident.
The Vastrapur police spotted the boys and arrested them on the spot. Ladva said the boys are not ready to accept the abduction charge. According to the boys it was a prank they had played on Nimbark when he was walking alone on the road,adding that it was not pre-planned,the police said.
The police,have,however registered a case of attempt to abduct and have booked the six under Section 365 for kidnapping and abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person and Sections 511,114 and 135/1. Further investigations are on.
