40,000 women join hands for their rights

Around 40,000 women across the state have signed a charter of demands and submitted it to Women and Child Minister Ganpat Vasava demanding several protection measures to be implemented,joint statement by a dozen rights groups said Monday.

“Gujarat government should make announcement for budget to implement the Gujarat High Court order dated February 22 for the proper implementation of Domestic Violence Act,” it said. The court had asked the state to appoint protection officers in adequate numbers.

The charter of demands include setting up of sexual harassment committees be formed in all public offices and educational institutes,installation of CCTVs in all police stations,fast track courts to handle cases of violence against women and interim relief and rehabilitation within three weeks for rape victims,among others.
