4 women arrested for ‘flesh trade’ in Ahmedabad

The accused have been booked under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.

THE Ahmedabad police arrested four women for their alleged involvement in flesh trade near Manav Mandir area of the city on Tuesday.

According to the police, a Mumbai-based woman, identified as Nilofer alias Neela Usman Sheikh (45), was allegedly operating the sex racket. The other three accused were sex workers originally from Madhya Padesh, Karnataka and Mumbai, the police said. The police had laid a trap and met Nilofer as customers near Manav Mandir area of the city.

Women police wing ACP Kanan Desai said, “The woman has been running the flesh trade for at least 10 years and operating through local agents in the city. The girls caught with her were brought through local agents. She lives in Mumbai and comes to Ahmedabad once in a while to run the racket.”

The police said that the modus operandi of Nilofer was to ask customers to meet her at a spot on outskirts of the city and she took a couple of girls in her car to make the customer choose one of them. After the customer selected a girl, she used to personally drive them to the guest-houses. The police said that during primary interrogation, Nilofer confessed to her crime, admitting that she was earning up to Rs 25,000 for a night and Rs 7,000-8,000 for a few hours.

The accused have been booked under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.
