In a major breakthrough,the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Surat Rural police arrested four people and seized four countrymade pistols and five live cartridges from their possession. The police suspect their involvement in several crimes in Surat and Navsari.
Acting on a tip off,the SOG sleuths intercepted two youths moving around suspiciously on the Palsana taluka crossroads in Surat on Sunday. They recovered a countrymade pistol along with five live cartridges from their possession.
The duo disclosed that they had brought the firearms from their native place in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh and were on their way to sell it. They were arrested and identified as Shivbahadur Verma and Abdulhai Ashikali.
During interrogation,the two disclosed that eight days ago,they had sold three countrymade pistols to one Mohammedali Saiyed through a mediator Siddik Pathan,both being residents of Begumpura area in Surat.

The police arrested Mohammedali and Pathan on Monday afternoon and recovered three firearms from their possession
SOG Sub-Inspector D K Vasava said: Verma and Ashikali used to carry countrymade pistols to Surat and Navsari which they brought from their native place. Siddik Pathan runs a small welding shop near his house while Mohammedali works in a textile unit at Pandesara. We suspect their involvement in many more crimes in Surat and Navsari which would be learnt during their remand period.
