(Representational image/File) The Ahmedabad city police arrested four people Tuesday for stabbing and injuring a man in the Madhavpura area allegedly in the wake of an argument that broke out over a religious chant. The victim was taken to a hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
The police said the victim Mohammad Shehroj Talib Hussain is a migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh and works at a factory in Madhavpura. The accused were identified as Madhavpura residents Sahil Bhil, 18, Jigar Bhil, 19, Ganesh Bhil, 26, and Rutvik Bhil, 24. They were booked for attempted murder among other sections and remanded in police custody till October 10.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2) Shripal Shesama said, “Six men were returning after namaaz and passed two people who greeted each other saying ‘Jai Shree Ram’. The men thought that it was said with an intention to provoke them, eventually leading to a fight in which the victim got stabbed.”

The complainant said his elder brother came running to the place and said that three or four people had a fight with him in front of a shop and stabbed him.
Hussain was rushed to Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad where was admitted to the ICU. His condition is stable at present, the police said. Former MLA Gyasuddin Shaikh also met the victim at the hospital.
The accused have been charged under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 114 (abettor present when the offence is committed) of the Indian Penal Code and section 135 (1) of the Gujarat Police Act.
