The Kutch district police claimed to have arrested four Bangladesh nationals from near Jakhau port in the wee hours of Monday for allegedly illegally entering India.
A team of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Kutch police,led by sub-inspector M M Jadeja,arrested the four from near jetty of a cement plant in Mohadi village of Abdasa taluka.
The four were identified as Kamaliya Sheikh (45),Kayyum Sheikh (22),Abdulkarim Sheikh (26) and Saeed Shiekh (26). While Kamaliya is a resident of Bibariya district of Bangladesh,the rest three hail from Sylhet district,police said in a release.
They were picked up at 1.15 am during a routine patrolling by SOG team,police said.
They could not provide any travelling documents nor did they have anything to prove they were locals. During questioning,they admitted they were from Bangladesh, Kutch district superintendent of police Bipin Ahire told The Indian Express over phone.
We have verified with the officials of the cement company if the four were their workers. They have told us they had not hired them, Ahire said.
The four were brought to Bhuj later in the day for interrogation. In the evening,an SOG team took them back to Jakhau for identifying the places they had stayed at.
We are trying to know their purpose of being in Kutch. Investigation is on to know how long they had been in the district and what parts they had travelled, Ahire said.
