3 kids among 7 killed in Anand road mishap

As many as seven persons, including three children, were killed and 11 others injured when a speeding truck rammed into a passenger van carrying daily wage labourers near Piplay village on the Anand-Sojitra road at around 2 on Saturday night. Eight of them were said to be in critical condition, the police said. The labourers were coming from Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh.

At least three of those killed were children of four, seven and 10 years of age. Among adults were two women of 30 and 40 years of age. Police said that they were travelling from different villages in Jhabua to find daily wage job in Anand. While six persons were killed on the spot, one of the women died on her way to hospital in Kapadwanj.

“Six persons died on the spot, which included three children. The injured were rushed to the Kapawanj hospital, and from there they were later shifted to SSG Hospital in Vadodara after the doctor said that the situation of eight persons were critical,” the police said. The site of the accident is situated at around 20 kilometres from Anand.
The truck that hit the van was carrying cement. The driver of the truck was also seriously injured, while the driver in the van died on the spot. Police lodged a case of accidental death and started further probe in this regard.
