The Special Operations Group of the Gandhidham police busted a fake currency racket on Thursday and arrested two persons,including a man who is already facing trial in a similar case and was out on bail.
The police said Ramashankar Mukhia and Prabhu Mukhia,both residents of Betia in Bihar,were arrested with fake currency of the face value of Rs 1 lakh. “We have seized 77 counterfeit notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and 46 of Rs 500 denomination,” said SOG inspector Lalit Vadolia.
According to the police,this was the biggest fake currency racket busted in Kutch that shares border with Pakistan. Police said they had kept a watch on Ramashankar after he came out of jail on bail,which helped them bust the racket. Vadolia said Ramashankar,his wife Sugandha Devi and brother Shivshankar were arrested a year ago in connection with recovery of counterfeit currency notes from Mundra. While his wife and brother are in jail,he was granted bail recently.
Police said the son of Mukhia was also arrested in a similar case unearthed by the Surendranagar police a couple of months ago.
“Links of all accused,most of who are related to each other,has been traced to Betia. We believe fake currency notes were supplied in Betia from Nepal as the distance between the two places is only 15 kilometres,” said the inspector.
