The Panchmahal district police on Saturday arrested two men, both aged above 20, for allegedly sodomising and murdering a 16-year-old boy in a village in the district before disposing of his body in the local pond. A third accused in the case is a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL), who will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
A case of murder as well as Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, has been lodged against two men, who allegedly asked the 16-year-old juvenile accused to bring along the victim, his close friend, to a deserted location in their village. According to the police, the juvenile accused took the victim to the spot around 9am on Thursday. Police said that while the juvenile left from the spot, the two arrested accused sodomised and then strangulated the victim.
Sharing details, Police Inspector MB Gadhvi told The Indian Express, “The victim is a cousin of the prime accused, who sodomised and murdered him along with the second accused”.
“During the primary investigations, the local residents said that both accused were known for their notorious activities in the area but as of now, we have not come across any of their crime history,” Gadhvi said. After the victim did not return home the entire Thursday night, his family started searching for him Friday morning, Gadhvi added . His body was later recovered from the pond, based on which the police began an investigation.
“Based on the probe, we narrowed down on the juvenile accused. While questioning, he confessed that he had taken the victim to the accused. Once cornered, the other accused also admitted to the crime,” Gadhvi said.
Gadhvi added that the child in conflict with law will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board as per procedure while the two arrested accused will be produced before a magistrate court on Sunday.
