16-year-old student found dead in Surat hostel room
According to police, the victim, who was studying in a private school, had shifted to the school’s hostel a few days back, on June 9.
The police have lodged an accidental death report in connection with the matter.
A 16-year-old boy was allegedly found dead inside his hostel room in Surat district, said police on Tuesday.
A suicide note found from the Class 9 student’s room states that the victim “did not want to stay in the hostel” and was unhappy over staying far away from his family, said a police officer familiar with the matter.
According to police, the victim, who was studying in a private school, had shifted to the school’s hostel a few days back, on June 9.
The boy had died by suicide on Saturday night but the incident came to light on Sunday when he did not come for breakfast, said the police. After the hostel warden’s repeated knocks on his room’s door went unanswered, the school authorities were alerted, said the police. Later, they broke open the door and found the body, said the police.
During probe, police had recovered a suicide note from the victim’s room, in which the boy addressing his family members said: “From now onwards, I will not (you) give trouble. You will not have to spend money on me and spend all the money on my two little sisters for their education.”
The police also found a note “Mom, I am not fit for education” written on his right hand palm, said police sources.
The police informed the victim’s family and sent his body to a government hospital for the post-mortem examination.

The police have lodged an accidental death report in connection with the matter.
Police inspector C B Chauhan said: “As per the victim’s suicide note, he did not want to stay in the hostel. He used to cry frequently and request his father on the phone to take him away. We have handed over the victim’s body to his family members after the post-mortem examination and launched a probe into the matter.”
