As many as 10 schools in Ahmedabad have shown no interest in seeking pre-matric scholarships for minority community students, alleged Congress MLA Gyasuddin Shaikh. The MLA named the schools saying that the authorities of these institutions are not taking any interest in procuring application forms from the state government under the scheme.

In a memorandum to Joint Director of Tribes Welfare Board I K Parmar on Saturday,Shaikh said that these schools are denying implementation of the scheme claiming that it does not apply in the case of self-financed schools. “This is unfair, but it is happening in several districts,” Shaikh said.

He said that since the time-limit of the scheme has been extended till September 30,the department should send strict instructions to all the district social welfare officers and district education officers to secure application forms from the state government, distribute to minority community students, get them duly filled and submitted to the department concerned within the specified time limit.

As per Shaikh, the following schools have shown no interest in the scholarship: Trinity English School (Paldi),Som Lalit English School (Navrangpura),M K School,C U Shah School,K N School,N R School (all managed by Gujarat Law Society,Ellisbridge),KSMM Primary School (Girdharnagar),St Kabir School (Navrangpura),Seven Days Adventist School (Maninagar) and Little Flower School (Vasna).
