With just two months left for the new Mayor to take over, the race among BJP councillors owing allegiance to different factions has begun, and so does the rift among them, which is quite significantly visible in the general house meetings. Sources said that BJP councillor Davesh Moudgil, who is a close aide of BJP leader Satya Pal Jain is a strong contender for the Mayor’s post this time. He is said to be getting support from MP Kirron Kher as well who has been supporting all the candidates fielded in the previous years.
Councillor Arun Sood, a close aide of BJP’s Sanjay Tandon, who has already been a Mayor in 2016 is also eyeing for the post again. But chances seem to be bleak for him as he has remained a Mayor once and candidates are not likely to be repeated. Following speculations of Moudgil being the frontrunner for the post, the councillors owing allegiance to Tandon has recently started a signature campaign against Moudgil for not inviting Mayor Asha Jaswal to an event in his ward. However, sources said that this thing didn’t go well with the high command which was really upset with this move.
Not just this, but the rift within the councillors over the issue of Lion Services Limited, the company managing the sanitation work in the southern sectors, which was found littered three days back in Sector 47 also surfaced in the house meeting on Monday. Few BJP councillors were of the view that some of their party councillors were favouring the company for reasons known to them. Two complaints regarding favours extended to the company have also reached the ear of the senior leaders in Delhi.
A senior BJP leader told Chandigarh Newsline that the high command was also apprised as to how the company was allotted the work.
