Sensex gains 85 pts, Nifty rises to 18,756; metal and oil stocks gain

Sectorally, Nifty Metal gained 1.42 per cent, followed by Nifty Oil & Gas rising 0.91 per cent, while Nifty FMCG jumped 0.59 per cent.

Key domestic equities rose marginally on Wednesday amid volatility, as BSE benchmark Sensex gained 85.35 points, or 0.14 per cent to 63,228.51, while broader NSE Nifty50 39.75 points, or 0.21 per cent to 18,755.90.

Broader markets outperformed key indices today, as India Vix and Nifty Microcap 250 gained 0.47 per cent each, followed by Nifty Smallcap 250 rising 0.29 per cent, Nifty Midsmallcap 400 and Nifty Smallcap 150 each gained 0.28 per cent.

Sectorally, Nifty Metal gained 1.42 per cent, followed by Nifty Oil & Gas rising 0.91 per cent, while Nifty FMCG jumped 0.59 per cent. However, Nifty Media slipped 0.56 per cent today, while, the private bank index fell 0.37 per cent.

Tata Consumer, Grasim, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Power Grid, Tata Motors, ONGC, Apollo Hospitals, Nestle India, UltraTech Cement, and Reliance Industries were the top gainers in today’s session.

On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, Hero MotoCorp, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto, and Bajaj Finserv were the top losers in today’s session.

After rising in early trade, Adani group stocks ended with marginal losses after a report stated that the conglomerate is in talks with lenders to refinance up to $3.8 billion of a loan facility taken for its acquisition of Ambuja Cements Ltd last year.
