Sensex soars 629 pts, Nifty ends at 18,499; Reliance gains nearly 3%, IT stocks rally

Domestic equities soared on Friday led by Reliance Industries, and Sun Pharma as investors waited for US debt limit deal to reach soon. BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 629.07 points, or 1.02 per cent higher at 62,501.69, while, broader NSE Nifty50 climbed 178.20 points, or 0.97 per cent to close the week at 18,499.35.

Reliance Industries soared nearly 3 per cent today, and was the top gaining stock in the Sensex and Nifty50 chart after a report stated that the company is well positioned to lead India’s e-commerce market. Read more

Sun Pharma, HCLTech, Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel and Titan were the top gaining stocks in today’s trade.

On the other hand, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Power Grid, Grasim, and Bajaj Auto were the top losers today.

In the Sensex heatmap, only 3 out of 30 stocks ended in red, namely, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, and Power Grid.

All sectors ended in green today, as media index gained 2.24 per cent, Nifty IT jumped 1.48 per cent, FMCG index gained 1.47 per cent, while the realty index gained 1.25 per cent.

Broader markets also extended today’s rally as Nifty Next 50 gained 1.14 per cent, Nifty Midcap 50 gained 1.04 per cent, Nifty Midcap Select rose 1.08 per cent, and Nifty 100 rose 0.99 per cent.
