India Share Market Holiday 2025: The Indian share/stock markets – Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) – will be closed today, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, for the entire trading session, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, in observance of Maharashtra Day.

Maharashtra Din, or Maharashtra Day, is a significant observance that is observed annually on May 1, marking the foundation of Maharashtra as a separate and independent state from the division of the Bombay division on May 1, 1960.

Consequently, no trading activity will take place across all segments, including equities, derivatives, and SLB on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE).

This closure is being observed as both BSE and NSE are headquartered in Mumbai, and will be observing the public holiday; the trading will resume from tomorrow, on Friday, May 2, 2025, according to the holiday schedule released by the NSE and BSE.

However, it is important to note that the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be shut for the morning session (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), but the evening session (5:00 PM to 11:55 PM) will remain operational.

Furthermore, both public and private banks in a few cities in India will also be closed today, as mentioned in the RBI Holiday Calendar for 2025.

This trend is driven by the fact that the Indian stock markets- NSE, BSE, and the morning session of MCX- are closed due to the Maharashtra Day public holiday.
