As the BJP government relaxed FDI in crucial sectors, two major RSS-affiliated organisations Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and Swadeshi Jagran Manch came out to strongly oppose the government’s decision.
“It is not appropriate to open important sectors like defence and civil aviation for FDI. BMS demands the government calls a meeting of all stakeholders to discuss the FDI issue,” BMS general secretary Virjesh Upadhyay. The Manch said that FDI relaxation is a betrayal of people’s trust.
Both the Manch and the Sangh have consistently opposed government’s economic policies. “Opening up sectors like retail, defence and pharma to FDI and by relaxing norms is betrayal to people of the country. In doing so, this government has not done good to the country in general and local businessmen in particular,” SJM’s national co-convener Ashwani Mahajan said.

Mahajan said that the Modi government is working with the same mindset as that of the previous regime as it feels development and job creation is possible only with FDI. “This policy is not aimed at job creation, it is aimed at snatching away jobs from Indian people. It will spell a death knell for local businessmen,” Mahajan said.
“They (foreign players) should only be allowed in greenfield pharma projects,” he said, adding that the Indian pharma industry in international market would be adversely affected. The BMS while the government has made lots of initiatives to boost FDI, employment has not increased in the country.
