India is aggressively pursuing tax claims against multinational firms like Nokia and Vodafone operating in the country as the government looks to rein in its budget deficit, taking particular aim at IT and back-office functions. But, while Nokia and Vodafone have got much media coverage, India has targeted several other MNCs in for tax audits on transfer-pricing.

Here are the top companies involving tax disputes in the country:

1. Company: Vodafone International

Nature of claim:Capital gains tax on indirect transfer of Indian assets

Transaction:Hutch Essar purchase in 2007 from CGP investments for $ 11 billion

2. Company: Nokia*

3. Company: IBM
