Sugar prices fell on the wholesale sugar market today owing to slackened demand.

Sugar prices fell on the wholesale sugar market today owing to slackened demand against adequate supplies from mills.

Marketmen said subdued demand against increased supplies from millers mainly kept pressure on sugar prices.

To check rise in sugar prices during the festival season,the government said it is keeping a close watch on sugar sales by millers in the open market and warned against failure to sell the entire quota allocated to them for the October- November period.

Sugar ready medium and second grades eased to Rs 3,600- 3,800 and Rs 3,570-3,770 against last close of Rs 3,670-3,870 and Rs 3,640-3,840 per quintal,respectively.

Mill delivery medium and second grades also weakened to Rs 3,400-3,640 and Rs 3,380-3,600 from previous levels of Rs 3,460-3,700 and Rs 3,440-3,675 per quintal,respectively.

In the millgate section,Mawana and Dorala fell by Rs 100 each to Rs 3,620 and Rs 3,550 while Khatuli shed Rs 50 at Rs 3,550 per quintal,respectively.

The following were today quotations in Rs per quintal: Sugar ready: M-30 3,600-3,800,S-30 3,570-3,770. Mill delivery: M-30 3,400-3,640; S-30 3,380-3,600. Sugar mill gate (including duty): Mawana 3620,Kinnoni 3850,Asmoli 3750,Dorala 3550,Budhana N.T,Thanabhavan N.T,Ramala 3430,Bulandshar N.T,Morna 3440, Sakoti 3430,Chandpur NT,Dhanora 3570,Khatuli 3550,Baghpat 3440,Amroha NT,Simbholi 3740,Modi Nagar 3550,Anupshar 3420 and Nazibabad 3420.
