Over four months after its US launch, Amazon India has brought the Kindle Paperwhite ebook reader to the country. The price is the same as that of the previous generation device — WiFi variant for Rs 10,999 and if you want 3G, be prepared to shell out Rs 13,999. These variants are available for pre-order on The company said it will begin shipping the new Kindle Paperwhite on February 4. The new Kindle Paperwhite looks similar to its predecessor, but the improvements are in its display, processor, touchscreen and software. Amazon says this iteration of the product has a display with higher contrast, a better front light for reading in the dark, both of which should improve reading experience.

HP is entering the phablet-tablet race with two Android devices with voice calling. Incidentally, six-inch HP Slate6 VoiceTab and the seven-inch HP Slate7 Voice Tab have been designed in Asia and will be available in India next month. Rajiv Srivastava, President, PPS, HP India said the India launch demonstrates their recognition of changing market preferences and commitment to India as a consumer market. “People have been consuming a variety of devices and we thought it was only right for us extend our portfolio to this segment as well,” Srivastava said.
