Jeera prices moved up by Rs 142.50 to Rs 14,000 per quintal in futures market today on the back of firm demand in the spot market and thin supplies.
However, weak overseas enquiries capped the gain.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in November rose by Rs 142.50,or 1.03 per cent,to Rs 14,000 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,197 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in October traded higher by Rs 125,or 0.92 per cent,to Rs 13,692.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 15,591 lots.
Marketmen said besides pick-up in demand in the spot market, less arrivals from producing belts mainly led to a rise in jeera futures.
