Hours after two BJP ruled states cut down VAT on petrol and diesel sale, Himachal Pradesh, a poll-bound Congress ruled state, also decided to give relief to the people. “Cabinet has decided to lower the VAT by one percent on petrol and diesel in the state. Currently, the state has imposed a VAT of 27 percent on petrol and 16 percent on diesel. There will be a big relief to the people from rising petrol and diesel prices,” said an official spokesman of the government.
The new rates after reduction in the VAT will be Rs 68.32 per litre from Rs 69.01 per in case of petrol and Rs 56.32 from Rs 57.09 per litre for diesel.
Only a few days ago, the Congress leaders had held a protest in the town on hike in the petrol and diesel rates terming it as “anti-people” step of the NDA government led by the BJP.
