AMID US criticism of India’s IPR policy, especially in the pharma sector, World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) director general Francis Gurry on Wednesday downplayed the issue and said that in a globalised world, countries will continue to push their interest.
“This is an area that is at the heart of an economy now and (since it) gives competitive advantage, so naturally different countries are going to promote their own interest in the area. I think the dialogue will continue as different partners push their areas of interest,” the director general said.
India has been facing criticism, led by the US, for its intellectual property regime, with the International Trade Commission ordering investigations, and even threatening sanctions against the country. In fact, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to the US last year, the issue was taken up by Washington.
Centre selects 15 EDs for PSBs
Mumbai: The government has selected a record number of 15 executive directors for public sector banks to fill up the posts lying vacant for quite some time. The move follows the recent appointment of MD and CEO for some PSU banks by the government.
“Some of these EDs will eventually become MD and CEO, depending on their performance in various banks. The government will soon decide their posting. It will soon announce the process of appointing chairman for PSU banks,” said a banking source.
Govt finalising policy on setting up BPOs within Tier III-IV towns
New Delhi: The Centre is finalising policy to set up business process outsourcing (BPO) operations in Tier-III and IV towns in order to balance the skewed IT profile of the country, according to Union telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
“Why do these units only need to be in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Vijayawada and such cities? After all, we have people from backward areas of Bihar or Uttar Pradesh coming and working there, and they are trained. Digital India is more for rural India,” Prasad said.
