Subroto Bagchi to head Odisha Skill Development Authority

He would assume office on May 1 and report to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. A statement from government said Bagchi will be given all the support necessary to make a difference to the youth of the state.

IT major Mindtree co-founder Subroto Bagchi will head Odisha Skill Development Authority that would overseeing skill development programmes in the state. Bagchi, born in Patnagarh block of backward Bolangir district, will be given the rank of cabinet minister with a token monthly salary of Re 1.

He would assume office on May 1 and report to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. A statement from government said Bagchi will be given all the support necessary to make a difference to the youth of the state.

He will begin his work by visiting all the 30 districts of the state to get a first-hand understanding of the initiatives on the ground and submit his recommendations, based on which a detailed program will be worked out, the statement said.

Bagchi said he is deeply humbled by the offer and was willing to give back to the state here he was born. In January Patnaik had roped in another Bolangir-born techie, Sam Pitroda as its technology adviser for development of telecom, electronics, IT, ITES sectors.
