Non-performance: 33 revenue officials get retirement orders

“There is a general perception that no action is taken against the defaulting tax officials for their non-performance as well as in case of harassing the tax assesses among others. The current government has taken various steps to change this perception following the principle of good governance. After the current government took over two years ago, it has taken strict action against such revenue officers in order to fix their accountability,” the finance ministry said in a statement.
At the same time, another 72 officers have been dismissed, including six Group ‘A’ officers in other departments for disciplinary actions in the past two years. Though there has always been a norm for performance review of government officers, sending officers on premature retirement was not a regular practice.

It says the appropriate authority has the “absolute right to retire, if it is necessary to do in public interest”.
The Centre has also set up an online petition platform, which is integrated with the centralised public grievance redressal and monitoring system – an online cell administered by the department of administrative reforms and public grievances. FE
