Dinesh K Sarraf on Saturday took charge as the chairman and managing director of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
Sarraf took over from Sudhir Vasudeva, who retired on February 28.
Prior to this, Sarraf was managing director of ONGC’s overseas arm, ONGC Videsh Ltd and is credited with reviving the company after its acquisition of Russia-focused Imperial Energy in 2009 turned sour.
At ONGC, Sarraf functioned as director-finance, before taking charge at OVL in 2011.
As ONGC head, his immediate challenge is to raise stagnant oil and gas output and aggressively look for more reserves.
