Your social life at your fingertips with the new BlackBerry smartphone.

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) may be facing continued losses and deep uncertainty, but India seems to offer hope to the beleaguered Canadian firm. The BlackBerry Curve series is extremely popular and successful in the youth segment in the country. Bolstered by this trend, the smartphone maker has brought its new BlackBerry Curve 9320 to customers here. This new Curve is stylish and is designed to make it easy for customers to be socially-connected. It features all the core BlackBerry messaging and social-centric features that keep people connected. And with a price tag of R15,990,it is affordable too.

A quick recap: RIM has struggled to keep up with rivals in the smartphone market, such as Apple’s iPhone and handsets running on Google’s Android operating system. It has also struggled to gain a foothold in the tablet market. The Canadian firm had been pinning its hopes for a comeback on its new phone operating system Blackberry 10. Recently,RIM announced that it will delay the launch of Blackberry 10 and will also cut 5,000-odd jobs. Despite facing heat, the company’s phones are still quite popular in the US and Europe and are growing in emerging markets like India. Peek into any executive conference room and you’re bound to see one or a dozen of BlackBerry smartphones.

Cut to the new Curve 9320. The device offers the best QWERTY keyboard in its class for quick and easy typing. Ask any BlackBerry user what they like about their phone, and they are bound to mention the click-clacking keyboard. In the new Curve too,the keyboard is easy to use and gives the convenience of a full-size computer keyboard. The great keyboard comes into play here again, because it is too difficult to type a 500-word email on a touch screen, right?.After all,Blackberry and email come hand-in-hand! And with a push of a button, you’ll have complete control over your emails and contacts.

The Curve 9320 also includes a new, dedicated BBM key. As soon as I powered on the test unit,I got connected instantly with the dedicated BBM shortcut key on the Curve 9320 smartphone. One touch launches the BBM app so you can chat in real time or share pictures, videos and files. BBM is built into your favourite apps like Facebook and Twitter,so you can share your Facebook status update or latest Tweet without ever leaving the app. Facebook,Twitter and the new Social Feeds 2.0 app are preloaded, allowing users to post updates to multiple social networks simultaneously and capture updates from news sources (RSS),social apps and instant messaging apps all in one consolidated view.

Among others, the phone comes with a built-in FM radio that does not require a data plan or use of data services. One can listen to their favourite local stations on the built-in FM radio. This means that local news and music are now at your fingertips,so no matter where you are,you can always tune in to what’s going on around you.

Designed to allow both 3G connectivity and a long battery life, customers can get up to seven hours of talk time or up to 30 hours of FM radio listening or music playback with headphones. The integrated camera includes a flash and supports video recording, and pictures can be tagged with their location thanks to the smartphone’s built-in GPS. And with the Mobile Hotspot feature on the Curve 9320,you can share your Wi-Fi hotspot with up to five devices at once.

A smooth and fast user experience is enabled by the BlackBerry operating system 7.1,packed with powerful new features and innovative pre-installed apps. The device has a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash. I took many pictures with this thing, and each one of them looked beautiful,as good as any digital camera would make.

BlackBerry mobiles have always been one of the most popular smartphones in the corporate world. The new Curve 9320 has plenty of features that will make it attractive to youngsters of the country.
