The Centre has decided to provide another Rs 1,000 crore to Andhra Pradesh as special assistance this fiscal.
“The Central government has decided to continue to support the programmes for the development of backward districts of Andhra Pradesh and provide assistance for creation of new capital of Andhra Pradesh including the Raj Bhawan, high court, government secretariat, legislative assembly, legislative council, and such other essential infrastructure,” said a finance ministry release on Friday.
Of this, Rs 350 crore or Rs 50 crore per district would be allocated to the seven backward districts covering Rayalaseema and the North Coastal region. Another Rs 350 crore would be allocated for the new capital of the state while Rs 300 crore would be given for Polavaram Irrigation Project.

The government had also provided tax incentives to the state in Budget 2015-16 and had previously released Rs 4,403 crore to the state during 2014-15.
“Having regard to the resource availability, the Central government is required to make appropriate grants and also provide adequate benefits and incentives in the form of special assistance to the backward areas of states,” said the release.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 had bifurcated the state, with the creation of Telangana taking effect from June 2, 2014.
