While Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Thursday that the Railway Budget presented by Suresh Prabhu has “nothing for Bihar”, his alliance partner and RJD chief Lalu Prasad said the Indian Railways has “derailed”.
“Suresh Prabhu is my friend and it is difficult to criticise him. But the truth has to be told. The Rail Budget has nothing for Bihar, there is no plan to connect remote areas. The government is neither earning from Railways nor spending on it. There has been no talk about railway safety. Depreciation reserve fund has depleted by 40 per cent. Operating ratio is shown falsely at 92 per cent,” said Kumar.
He added: “There have been only cosmetic changes in the budget. PM does mann ki baat and his ministers only talk”.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad, on his part, said: “Indian Railways has got derailed. There is no immediate need of bullet trains. Rather, there was need to focus on freight trains. Behind the excuse of bullet trains, there have been attempts to privatise Railways. Railways had recorded profit in my tenure, but now it is not able to bear its own expenses”.
