The Reserve Bank today said it is looking into all aspects of the entities it regulates,a

comment that comes in the wake of HSBC being pulled up by the US Senate for failing to prevent money laundering activities.

In response to a query on the money laundering issues involving HSBC,Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor K C Chakrabarty said that as a regulator,RBI looks into all the

aspects of the entities it regulates.

He also noted that nothing has come either from the Federal Reserve or the US Senate for the RBI to launch a fresh probe.

“If we’ve something,in documents,if it comes to us in writing from the Federal Reserve,we will look into it. But otherwise also we are looking into it (as an ongoing process),” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

A US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations probe, whose findings were released last week, said that HSBC failed in preventing money laundering by drug cartels and terrorists not only in the US,but also other parts of the world, possibly including India.

“HSBC used its US bank as a gateway into the US financial system for some HSBC affiliates around the world to provide US dollar services to clients while playing fast and loose with US banking rules,” Senator Carl Levin, the Chairman of the subcommittee, had said last week.
