It is being reported that Renault is considering launching a facelift for the Duster by the end of 2015. This news comes a week after Hyundai launched the Creta and close to the launch of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, both of which are expected to eat into the sales of the Duster.
Renault had launched the updated Duster in March 2015, but the competition is heating up fast and changes have to be made to the compact-SUV to keep it competitive in the segment. Changes will include a visible exterior update, additional equipment and if reports are to be believed, a dual-clutch transmission. For the moment Renault is concentrating on introducing the Kwid hatchback in the market, it is expected to be launched sometime in September 2015. The Duster facelift should make it to the showrooms a couple of months after this, but definitely before the end of the year.
There is good news and bad news as far as the Duster facelift is concerned. The good news is that the Duster will finally sport a new look, the bad news is that the look will not be revolutionary different than the existing model. It is being reported that the Duster facelift will get design cues from the Adventure Edition which was first launched during the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. It is not known what other design changes will be made to the Duster inside/outside as of now, details are awaited.
While the mechanicals of the Duster are not expected to be changed much, the 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel may be tweaked for better efficiency and driveability. The exciting news is that the facelifted 2WD diesel variants will reportedly be fitted with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission dubbed the ‘Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC)’. This transmission is used on many Renault vehicles sold in international markets and is usually mated to the 110PS variant of the 1.5-litre diesel motor. Renault is expected to launch this engine-transmission combo to take on the diesel-automatic variant of the Hyundai Creta. It is not known if Renault will offer the EDC transmission on the Duster 4WD as well.
The Renault Duster facelift is expected to be launched in India sometime around November 2015. More details about the compact-SUV are expected to be revealed closer to the launch.
