The exteriors of the upcoming Toyota Fortuner will be thoroughly revised as it will get new diamond-cut 18-inch alloy wheels, new swept-back projector headlamps with day-time running LED lamps, new fog lamp cluster, etc. The front fascia looks bolder and a lot of chrome garnish has been used on it.

The rear profile of the vehicle will boast of angular LED taillights, rear reflectors on the bumpers and a rear wiper. Although there is no official statement from the company’s side about the exact dimensions of the SUV, it is expected to be bigger in size than the current model.

Coming to the cabin, just like the exteriors, the new Fortuner will come with all-new interiors. It will get a host of features like leather-wrapped three-spokes steering with steering controls for audio system. A new instrument cluster with ‘waterfall’ style center console, black and beige dashboard featuring touchscreen infotainment system, automatic air-conditioning and other utility space for mobile phone, magazines, etc., add a modern touch to the cabin.

Talking about the safety equipment, the top-end variant is expected to come with seven airbags for all occupants. Other active and passive safety features will include ABS, EBD, VSM, ESC, HAC and Brake Assist. Apart from this, the all-new Toyota Fortuner is said to be based on the updated IMV (Innovative Multi-purpose Vehicle) platfrom and a new ladder-on-frame chassis that is made of high-strength components.

Powering the upcoming SUV will be two new ‘GD’series diesel engines – 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre units. The 2.4-litre mill will make around 152PS of max power and 323 Nm of peak torque, while the 2.8-litre motor will develop 179.4PS of power and 450 Nm of peak torque. Coupled with the engines will be a 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Moreover, these powertrains are said to have improved fuel efficiency by up to 10 per cent.

The company will launch the 2016 Toyota Fortuner globally in Thailand on 17th July, 2015.
