Mitsubishi currently only sells one vehicle in India, the Pajero Sport premium SUV. Off late, the company has been emphasizing more on this model with the launch of a special edition model with added equipment and then a dual exterior colour tone version. Mitsubishi now has launched an automatic version of the Pajero Sport to make it cater to a larger market base.

Priced at Rs. 23.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport automatic is more affordable than the manual version by Rs. 49,000 as it does not feature a four-wheel drive system. Both versions are powered by the same 2.5 litre turbo four cylinder diesel engine developing 178PS @ 4,000 rpm and 350Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 3,500 rpm in the AT model as opposed to 400Nm of peak torque in the manual version.

Mitsubishi has also updated the Pajero Sport with a new grille and restyled front bumpers to refresh it’s appeal.

P. Vijayan, HMFCL’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “The new automatic variant is ideally suited for city driving conditions. Hence from a buyer’s perspective the automatic transmission provides comfort and smoother riding experience. From a driver’s point of view the automatic transmission gives effortless driving with quick acceleration using the paddle shifter which is a very unique feature in the diesel SUV segment.”

“Mitsubishi has reinforced its commitment to HMFCL (Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Limited) and India. Sales increase of SUVs will boost the business fundamentals of our operations. Volumes will grow through launch of strategic models. We expect a quantum leap in our sales with the entry of the all new Pajero Sport and garnering of sizable market share. HMFCL will also focus on expansion of its channel network so as to ensure availability across India, said HMFCL’s Managing Director, Mr. Uttam Bose.

The two-wheel drive automatic version of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will take on two-wheel drive automatic versions of rival premium SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet Captiva and Ford Endeavour.
