Maruti Suzuki India will launch many new and updated models this year starting this September 2015.

The company has confirmed the launch of its new crossover, Maruti Suzuki SCross and the YRA (code named) hatchback. Besides this, it is also said that the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, one of the highest selling models in the company’s portfolio, will get a mid-cycle facelift too.

Launched in 2012, the Alto 800 replaced the old-generation 800 model in the country. The entry-level hatchback, rivaling Datsun Go, Tata Nano and Hyundai Eon, was well accepted by the Indian market due to its affordable price, new looks and features in the segment.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 0.8liter, threecylinder motor that makes around 68PS and 90Nm of maximum power output and peak torque, respectively. According to the carmaker, the Alto 800 delivers a fuel economy of 22.74 kmpl (ARAI rated).

The homegrown auto manufacturer might also launch the diesel version of the Alto 800 which will be powered by a 0.8-litre, 2-cylinder, turbocharged mill. It is the same DDiS engine that also powers the Celerio diesel variants. It develops 48PS and 125Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. Coupled with the motor is a 5speed manual gearbox. This DDiS diesel motor made its debut on the Maruti Suzuki Celerio in June this year. It delivers an ARAI certified fuel economy of 27.62 kmpl.

Coming back to the Alto 800 facelift, the auto major will not make any changes to its exteriors and mechanics. It will continue to run on the same 800cc unit. It is also expected that the diesel variants of the Alto 800 will cost around Rs. 70,000 more than the petrol trims, just like the Celerio hatchback.

The prices of the ongoing Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 starts from Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 3.66 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. On the other hand, the topend trim of the diesel variants is expected to be priced around Rs. 4.36 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi.
