Honda has launched its first 7 seater MPV for the Indian market in the form of the Mobilio. The Mobilio range starts from Rs 6.49 lakh for the petrol and Rs 7.89 lakh for the diesel models, all prices being ex-showroom Delhi. The Mobilio is being offered in four versions of E, S, V and RS trim levels with the RS being limited to the diesel engine only. Deliveries for the Mobilio have started but the sporty RS version will only be available from September onwards.

The Mobilio is Honda’s third diesel offering for India and comes with segment leading space and fuel economy. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is same as the one found in the Amaze and City and in this case delivers 24.2kmpl as per ARAI certification. Maximum power and torque start at 100PS and 200Nm respectively. The petrol engine is the same as the one found in the City and this 1.5-litre unit puts out 119PS of power and 145Nm of torque. ARAI rated fuel economy stands at 17.3kmpl and both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Mobilio is based on the Brio platform but the wheelbase has been extended as compared to the Amaze. The doors are also larger to help passengers get into the last row. Design wise, it looks similar to the Brio and the Amaze up front though the extra chrome and modified bumper does spice up things, but just about. What makes the Mobilio stand out is the rear design which is excellent for a people carrier. The RS version further looks sporty with full body kit, different alloy wheels and even projector headlamps.

On the inside, cabin design remains identical to the Brio and the Amaze and this is a letdown considering the Mobilio is priced more than double that of the Brio. However, as far as space and ergonomics are concerned, the Mobilio does its job very well. Both 2nd and 3rd rows are reclinable while the 2nd row can also be adjusted for leg space. Big windows add to the airy feel and the last row is suitable for even average sized adults.

On the features front, the top end version comes with rear air-con vents, alloy wheels, keyless entry, dual airbags, ABS etc. A comprehensive driver information display is missing here though. Honda is offered a standard warranty of 2 years (40,000km) on the Mobilio and dealers will be ready with as many as 30 accessories for customers to opt from.
