Chevrolet’s latest product in the premium SUV segment has finally been launched in India. Replacing the not so successful Captiva in the Indian portfolio, the Trailblazer holds a lot of promise for the American car maker in the country. Priced at Rs. 26.4 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), Chevy’s premium SUV will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Honda CR-V, SsangYong Rexton, Hyundai Santa Fe and the upcoming Ford Endeavour.
Carrying the company’s well-known design theme forward, the Trailblazer gets a big grille up front which is divided by a slat running between, housing the Chevrolet logo. It features the segment’s first projector fog lamps that is well integrated into the front bumper. Side profile sees 18-inch alloy wheels, while the rear is characterised with horizontal LED taillamps. The largest SUV in its segment is offered in three exterior colours – White, Black and Silver.
The interior has a dual-tone beige and black layout with leather upholstery. Second row gets 60/40 split seats, while the third row has 50/50 split seats. The SUV gets Chevrolet’s 7-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system with six-speakers and Bluetooth/AUX/USB connectivity, reverse parking camera with park assist and electrically adjustable ORVMS.
The Trailblazer derives power from a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged Duramax diesel engine that outputs a segment best 200PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Safety wise, the premium SUV comes equipped with dual airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), cornering brake control (CBC), hill-start assist (HSA), hill-descent control (HDC), traction control system (TCS), panic brake assist (PBA) and hydraulic brake assist (HBA).
Overall, the Trailblazer is a very good SUV to consider in the segment. Thanks to its big dimensions, it also happens to have a very spacious cabin that can seat seven fully-grown adults without much of an issue.
