Performance variants of the well-known BMW X5 and X6 SUVs have just been launched in India. To be retailed via BMW M Studios, the X5M has been priced at Rs. 1.55 crore (ex-showroom) while the X6M carries a price tag of Rs. 1.6 crore (ex-showroom). The two new SUVs carry BMW’s sporty charisma forward and will serve to performance enthusiasts across the country. Both the new M’s are imported to India via the CBU route.

BMW has done a good job to differentiate the performance SUVs well from their standard counterparts. The front bumper features big air dams, side gills and the signature kidney grilles. The side profile receives M-specific ORVMs and sporty looking standard 20-inch alloy wheels that can be upgraded to an optional 21-inch set as well. The rear end features a roof mounted spoiler and the classic M four-tailpipe exhaust system.

The interior on the other hand sees a high quality sporty leather trimmed cabin. Normal seats have been replaced by sports ones with contrast stitching and embossed M logo in the backrests that works well with the overall theme of the SUVs. The standard instrument cluster and steering wheels have been replaced by M ones. The vehicles also get optional heads-up display displays in the optional Head-Up Display and special multifunction switch with M Drive buttons on the steering wheel.

Other features include automatic tailgate operation, automatically dimming rear-view and ORVMs, headlight washer system, Harman Kardon Surround Sound speaker system, Park Distance Control (front and rear) with a camera, Adaptive LED Headlights with BMW Selective Beam, an anti-dazzle high-beam function and much more. Both the SUVs derive power from a 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates a massive 575.1PS and 750 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Safety wise, BMW gives both the performance SUVs 6 airbags, ABS with Brake Assist, Cornering Brake Control, DSC, side impact protection and much more.
