BMW will be launching the updated M6 Gran Coupe in India on September 30, 2015.

The launch event, that takes place in Mumbai, will also mark the inauguration of BMW’s first ever ‘M Studio’ in the country.

For the uninitiated, the M-Division is renowned for developing high-performance derivatives of regular BMW models. World over, BMW ‘M’ series cars are famous for their performance and unparalleled dynamic capabilities. To promote the brand’s M-Division models among the well-heeled performance enthusiasts of the country, the M Studio will showcase all the ‘M’ branded cars BMW currently offers in India, namely, the M3 sedan, M4 Coupe, M5 and the updated M6 Gran Coupe. The M Studio will be an extension of regular BMW outlets in select cities. After Mumbai, the performance themed outlets will also be opened in Delhi and Bangalore.

Coming back to the 2015 BMW M6 Gran Coupe, the new model receives subtle changes in comparison to the outgoing car. Changes on the outside include new set of LED headlamps, redesigned front bumper and new LED tail-lights. Inside, the overall cabin layout and design remains identical to the old car as well. There are however updates like new telematics and infotainment system etc.

On the mechanical front, the 2015 BMW M6 retains the powertrain of the previous model. It will come powered by the same 4.4 litre V8 petrol engine that produces 560PS of maximum power and 680Nm of peak-torque. An optional ‘Competition Package’ (if BMW offers it in India) will increase the power output to 600PS and peak torque to 700Nm. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission sending power only to the rear wheels.

The previous-gen BMW M6 Gran Coupe retails for Rs. 1.71 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the 2015 model to come with a similar price tag. Competition here includes mainly the Audi RS7, but if you have that kind of money, you can also consider the Maserati Quattroporte GTS and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG for they will offer similar kind of performance, practicality and thrills.
