BMW in India has had a fairly mediocre 2014 on the sales front. Compared to its arch-rivals- Audi and Mercedes, both of which breached the 10,000 units sales mark last year, BMW trailed behind them with more than a few thousands units. The demand for its best-selling models like the 3-Series and 5-Series have been low and face stiff competition from their respective rivals. Apparently, this has resulted in a huge inventory on hand at BMW. Now in order to clear the remaining stock from last year, BMW is offering hefty discounts on select models like the 3-Series and 5-Series sedan.
The discounts on the aforementioned BMW sedans range in between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5 lakh. The 520d sedan is available at a steal-away price and has 5 lakh shaved off from its ex-showroom price. The more powerful 6-cylinder 530d gets a discount of Rs 2.5 lakh on its sticker price. Similarly, the 3-Series sedan has discounts going on for about Rs 3 lakh across all the variants. The offers are only applicable on the 2014 production models and will be available only till stocks last. Another noteworthy thing about the discounts is that these are being offered on the older prices, i.e., before the 2015 price-hike announce.
While BMW is trying to clear its last year’s stock by offering heavy discounts, in a parallel move, it has also discontinued some of the model trims from its product line-up in India. In the company’s official price listing of its models for 2015, the company has omitted the petrol variants of the 1- and 3-Series, which are 116i Prestige and 328i Sport Plus, respectively. In addition, the company has also missed out on listing some of the diesel variants- 520d Modern Line, 525d Luxury Plus, X1 20d Expedition and Sport Line, suggesting discontinuation of these variants as well. BMW, however, has not officially confirmed of the same.
