SC defers hearing on West Bengal's suit against CBI probe to Oct 22

The West Bengal government, in its original civil suit under Article 131 of the Constitution, said that the CBI has been proceeding with the probe and filing FIRs without getting the nod from the state government as mandated under the statute.

A five-judge Bench of the court, headed by acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, had set up the SIT in its order on August 19, directing it to investigate criminal cases other than those of heinous nature such as rape and murder.
