The Vellore seat is the last Lok Sabha constituency to hold elections. Polls were deferred by the Election Commission after it allegedly seized cash during the campaigns which it claimed was being used to influence voters. The constituency went to polls on August 5.
Polling for the Lok Sabha seat was scheduled for April 18, along with the other constituencies of Tamil Nadu, but was cancelled on April 16 following the recovery of a huge amount of cash allegedly from an associate of a DMK leader.
Vellore was the only constituency in the country that didn’t vote, after a cash seizure led to polls being cancelled. As rest of the country weighs its votes, Vellore is cynical, indifferent. “It would have made sense if they said we would never have an election”.
