Varnika Kundu stalking case: Vikas Barala and Ashish Kumar were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 354 D (Stalking), 341 (Wrongful restrain), 365/511 (Attempted abduction) and Section 85 (Drunken driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act on August 5 last year.
The defence counsel also asserted that Kundu, with the help of UT Home Secretary, Anurag Aggarwal, got the District Attorney appointed as Special Public Prosecutor, an assertion that was denied by Kundu.
Opposing the bail plea, the Union Territory Police, in its reply, mentioned that Kumar is already facing an abetment of suicide case in Hisar. The abetment of suicide case pertains to June 2017, wherein Kumar and three others have been accused of harassing a man, identified as Vinay Dhillon.
During the entire cross-examination, defence counsel Rabindra Pandit tried to rely upon her mobile phone call detail records and to emphasise that there were contradictions in Varnika’s statement given to the police.
When contacted by The Indian Express, Kundu said, “It’s up to the government where it deputes me keeping in view my capabilities. I don’t have any problem in it. I never tried to stop my transfer order.”
