The net household savings peaked at Rs 23.29 lakh crore in 2020-21. These have been on the decline since then, the data showed.

The factsheet gives a useful glimpse into present patterns of household consumption. There have been quick comparisons with earlier rounds of the consumption expenditure survey, especially with the last publicly available 68th round in 2011-12, to deduce a dramatic reduction in poverty over time and/or drastic changes in consumption patterns.

Although the results of the first survey for 2022-23, which will end in July, are likely to come through by December this year, officials involved in the exercise indicated that it has not yet been decided if these will be released immediately.
