In a session of its World Heritage Committee, UNESCO inscribed seven cultural sites on its World Heritage List, including those in Australia, Bahrain, China, India, Indonesia, Japan and People’s Democratic Republic of Lao.
Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recently figured second on NYT’s list of 52 Places to Go in 2019. Roopa Pai, author of Krishna Deva Raya: King of Kings, set in 16th century's Vijaynagara (today's Hampi) in Karnataka, tells us how there is something about a Hampi sunset that calms the most restless mind and fills the heart with gladness.
"A strict preservation is required now that the island has got the UNESCO listing," Taisha, the owner of the island said. "It will be risky if 200 visitors continue to come to the island," he said, adding that Okinoshima is "the island protected by Shinto priests".
Officials at the Kalka Railways Workshop told Chandigarh Newsline that the plan is to manufacture an 18-seater coach. “We have recently sent a revised drawing of the coach to the railways headquarters. We are waiting for the approval of the drawings,” said the official.
World Heritage Day: Apri l8 was declared the 'World Heritage Day' by the International Council on Monuments and Sites in 1982 and was approved by the General Assembly. The aim was to enhance people's awareness towards cultural heritages, ensure their protection and conservation. Because how else would our future generations enjoy the beauty of these resplendent structures with rich history and stunning locales?
