The Transgender Persons Bill passed recently in the Lok Sabha has sparked outrage among the transgender community. The protest organised by the South Indian Transgender Federation saw hundreds of people from the transgender community across the country speaking one language. “My body, my right”.
Shashi Tharoor tweeted: "Many offences under the IPC such as rape, stalking, sexual harassment etc are applicable only if the victim is female. Therefore, I moved an amendment to include transgender persons under the ambit of the IPC."
An official said according to the new definition proposed in the Bill, "a transgender means a person whose gender does not match with the gender assigned to that person at birth and includes trans-man or trans-women."
