Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma’s name was doing rounds as a probable candidate from Karnal constituency while there were talks regarding Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu’s candidature from Hisar, Rohtak or Sonipat.
Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish Kumar to be produced before a local court in Chandigarh for allegedly stalking and attempting to kidnap Varnika Kundu, the daughter of senior IAS officer V S Kundu on the night of August 4.
“We are with Kundu khap in this matter. We will support them, if they plan any stir. It appears that the slogan ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ has turned into ‘Beti Uthao’ (kidnap the daughters),” said Om Prakash Dhankar, president of Dhankar Khap.
Barala and his accomplice Ashish Kumar were reeking of alcohol at the health centre in Manimajra, where they were taken following Varnika’s complaint, the report said citing the doctor’s opinion. Home Ministry officials monitoring the case said the refusal by Barala and his accomplice to undergo a medical examination will go against them
Two other Jat leaders — Captain Abhimanyu and Om Prakash Dhankar — occupy prominent positions in CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s Cabinet. Before this assignment, Barala had also headed the youth and farmers’ wing of the BJP in Haryana.
“BJP supports women’s freedom and Varnika Kundu is like my daughter,” said Barala. “Action is being taken in the case as per law and action should be taken against Vikas and Ashish as per rules to ensure justice for Varnika,” Subhash Barala said.
The minor had been allegedly abducted by Vicky with the help of the other accused in the case and the police after her recovery had registered an FIR under Sections 363 and 366A on May 8 for the abduction against the accused at Police Station Sadar, Tohana in the Fatehabad district.
